Adulting 101

Growing up is the one thing we all never realize. Inconspicuously, we all grow up, that is the truth. Physically, yes, but the most supposedly important thing, the world thinks, is growing up "Mentally". I have encountered this dialogue about million times in my lifetime - "Act your own age!". And i am sure there are many more who say, "Be an adult, dude" or "Know your limits at this age".

Well, to all those people , I'd love to say," MY ASS".

As a new blogger to this sight, I would love to start my journey by stating the shits that we all face during our most important phase- Adulting. As it is during this period that we all have not a single clue as to how to 'Act our own Age'.

Recently, i have passed my Class XII Board Exams, by rather surprisingly quality marks, given the minor hard work i did in the four months prior to exams. And, as I move towards being a College-boy, i have discovered these 'contours' that the public has set to be an ADULT.

As happy I am to be, an adult surely experiences realizations, some dumb and obvious ones like "duhhh..." ; and some very subtle like "Ohhhh...". And as for me, realizations were pouring on me like these beautiful rains we are having. Some of these include-
"Life ain't funny anymore";
"Our focus must be on what the adult world tells us";
"That our belly will always display even the two days of lethargy on the mirror";
"That being self-centered is must in this crowd".
[And for me the belly-fat insecurity has been a heck of a sting]

The next complimentary package that adulthood invites is a sense of priorities. To state some of mine, people have said to me,
"Watching news, reading newspapers, updating general knowledge is more important than watching fictitious movies, reading fictitious books and updating your knowledge about your favorite comic/idol/sitcom. "
"That F.R.I.E.N.D.S is not my life anymore, that meeting the younger cast of F.R.I.E.N.D.S is not my dream anymore."

[The F.R.I.E.N.D.S thing was and still is a terrifying horror for me.]

All the above mentioned are the things that dawn upon us as we hit adulthood. And inhabiting with these seemingly claustrophobic criterias become highly petrifying. And carving ourselves to fit in this can be even more so.

But it is true what they say, you cannot run from your responsibilities. You can die trying, but not while you are alive. As the great author Mark Manson mentioned in his book,"No matter where you go, there you are." We have to face what we have to face, running away will never avoid it. The only thing that matters is how you face. And to that i would say- in your own special way.

Seriously, there is no way that you can mess up and still enjoy solving problems unless you do it in your own way. Laughing at ourselves, embarrassing ourselves and facing our problems ourselves as the consequence of our own decision is what makes our life bloom.
But what about the insecurities, the growing up mania, etc. Well, not to sound rude, but you ain't special with these problems, are you?

Every person in puberty and adulthood experiences these, regardless of how happy or successful she is. We moan over the most superficial things at all points of lives, and later after a little enlightenment we realize how small a life we were living.

And as far as growing up is concerned, we do learn to just go with the flow.
For instance, when i was younger and going into teenage, i found it pretty hard to let go of cartoons. Everyone would just bitch about it, but i couldn't let go of them. But as time passed by, I started to find them a little annoying, and eventually i started finding them preposterous. That was the time, i started watching international movies and sci-fi movies and love stories etc.

So, the thing is, even if we cannot stop living the way we used to, eventually it will burn out. But if it doesn't, then you must realize it then and there that, the things left with you are what makes you YOU. And to hold on to those things till the end is the best.

But, if there are certain things you do not want your Grown-up self to have, you know what is best? A letter to the older you. You write a letter mentioning all the things you do or not want to be when you are of a particular age. And when you reach that age and read the letter, you'll just know what you need to know at that age and time. Like a time capsule. you know!!

 Boy, I've written a hell lot, i guess!! So to conclude I'd like to say to all those who are adulting, right now- There is no such thing as being an adult. We all are as adult as we imagine ourselves to be. Whether a kid or an adult, we screw up anyway. You know you are an adult when you stop cringing over homosexuality, when you can say sex without hesitation, when you stop being racist. Not by your age.
 And to state the facts, adulthood does have perks of its own. Watching A-rated movies, being independent, driving cars and bikes without violations. The world can be so amazing if you live amazing. So, let's enjoy the life we have and feel great about the little child in us.

Be Idiot, Be Happy.
And F.R.I.E.N.D.S. rocks!!
